nairobi-giraffe Arrival any day

Day 1  Arrive Nairobi
Arrival in the early morning at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where you are met and transferred to our hotel for breakfast and briefing before checking into our rooms. Lunch will be at the hotel on own arrangement. After lunch, depart for a visit of Karen Blixen Museum and the AFEW Centre. The two excursions will take you up to the setting of the Sun when we are transferred to the Carnivore restaurant for dinner. After dinner, you are transferred back to the hotel.Overnight is at Nairobi Serena Hotel.

Day 2 Maasai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, you depart for Maasai Mara Game Reserve arriving at the lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive in this reserve is planned. Maasai Mara is renowned for its high animal concentration and abundance. It is essentially the northern extension of Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and is home to numerous plains game including Wildebeest, Cheetah, ostrich, common zebra and maasai giraffe as well as antelopes like thompson gazelle, hartbeest, impala dikdik among others. The big five including lion, elphant, buffalo, rhino and leopard can also be traced.Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Serena Lodge.

buffalo Day 3 Maasai Mara National Reserve
You’ll have a full day in the Mara with morning and afternoon game drives exploring of this – Kenya’s finest reserve.  You may witness a lion making a kill or a leopard enjoying the meal, after dragging it up the tree with him.  The vegetation is mostly savanna type, with forested areas near the rivers, and of course the dwarf acacias which the giraffes cater on.  More than 60 species of animals are found here, as well as countless bird species, including the Maasai ostrich and the secretary bird.  This is where the great migration of the wildebeest takes place. Day 4  Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast the tour leaves for Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in time for lunch at the lodge.  You will have an afternoon game drive in the park to enjoy the sight of pelicans bathing in the fresh water streams which terminate in Lake Nakuru.  Since there is no existing drainage, Lake Nakuru is alkaline, the perfect place for flamingos to feed on the blue-green algae.  The greater flamingo attains a height of about 4.26 feet; its plumage is almost white with a pale pink, black-tipped beak.  It is the lesser flamingo that has the more exotic color, and is about 2.72 ft. in height, with a rosy plumage and dark red, black-tipped beak. Lake Nakuru National Park has a great variety of bird life which includes the Egyptian goose and a variety of ducks that come from Europe to winter.  This park is truly a bird watchers paradise. The game animals include hippos, waterbuck, gazelles, colobus monkeys, buffalo, leopard and the Rothschild giraffe.  The park is also a sanctuary for the white rhino. This park has an abundance of acacia trees, both yellow barked (fever tree) the umbrella-topped acacia and the candelabra cactus. Day 5 Amboseli National Park
Depart after breakfast and drive with a game drive en-route out of the park to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch. After lunch proceed on to Amboseli National Park arriving later in time for an afternoon game drive. The National Park embodies five main wildlife habitats (open plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush country, swamps and marshland). Amboseli is famous for its big game and its great scenic beauty – and the landscape is dominated by the towering Mount Kilimanjaro. The swamp below the observation hill hosts many elephants, buffaloes, hippos and a variety of water fowl like pelican, Egyptian goose among others.Dinner and overnight stay at Amboseli Serena Lodge.

Day 6 Amboseli National Park
An early morning game drive is recommended before breakfast. The Snow Capped Mount Kilimanjaro is normally clearer in the early morning on clear day and makes a very photogenic background to the animals. Afternoon game drive in search of the different species of animals and birds this park has to offer.All meals and overnight stay at Amboseli Serena Lodge.

ngorongoro-conservation-areaDay 7 Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Depart after breakfast and drive to Namanga border point where you go through immigration formalities. Then join your Tanzanian driver guide and proceed to Arusha for lunch. After lunch, depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area arriving later in the afternoon. Covering approximately 8,288 square km, the Ngorongoro conservation area consists of the Ngorongoro crater itself, the Olduvai gorge, the Empakai crater and the Oldonyo Lengai Mountain. The Ngorongoro crater which is the central attraction in the area is the largest Caldera in the world that has its walls intact. The Ngorongoro crater floor, a sheer drop of 610 metres below the crater rim has an area of 265 square km, with a diameter of 19 km. The crater floor is covered with plains animals including wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elands, rhino and large predator population of lions, hyenas and jackal. Cheetah and leopard can also be traced.Dinner and overnight stay Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 8 Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast at the lodge, you proceed on a half-day crater tour returning to the lodge in time for lunch.  In the crater you can see a spectacular array of wildlife including the big five.  The crater has a variety of ecosystem including grassland forest and swamp.  The lake on the crater floor is home to Flamingos and many other species of birds. After breakfast at the lodge, depart and drive via Olduvai gorge, popularly referred to as the “Cradle of Humankind”. It was at this site that in 1959 Dr. Louis Leakey discovered the skull of Zinjanthropus or “Nutcraker Man” believed to have lived 1.75 million years ago. Later reclassified as Australopithecus boisei, this creature has a massive skull though small brained (500cc) with huge teeth. Several months later Dr. Leakey found another fossil hominid in the same layer of excavation called Homo habilis or “Handy man”, smaller than the “Nutcraker man” but with a larger brain (600cc) and capable of making simple stone tools.Lunch is at the lodge in Serengeti. After lunch, go on an afternoon game drive. Serengeti is the oldest National Parks in Tanzania and has a variety of scenery which includes the plains, lakes, hills and the rock outcrops called kopjes. Animals we expect to vie in Serengeti includes lions, buffaloes, hippos, waterbucks, elephants, cheetahs, wildebeests, zebras, Impalas, gazelles, topi, hartebeest and the leopard among others. Day 10 Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, proceed on a morning game drive to explore this park famous for large concentrations of plains game. Return to the lodge for lunch.  In the afternoon, another game drive can be taken.

lake-manyara-national-parkDay 11 Lake Manyara National Park
This morning you drive to Lake Manyara National Park arriving in time for lunch at the lodge. The lodge is situated on the Mto wa Mbu Escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley. This park has a large variety of habitats making it possible to support a wealth of wildlife in its small area. The main habitat includes the shallow soda lake, the ground water forest, open grassland, acacia woodland and the rift wall. The most famous spectacle in the park is the tree climbing lions. Other animals include buffalo, leopards, baboons, impala, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, ostrich and hippo. The lake contains over 400 species of birds. Common water birds to be seen here are pelicans, spoonbills, Egyptian geese, hammerkops and the migratory flamingoes. Afternoon game drive.Dinner and overnight stay at Manyara Serena Lodge.

Day 12 Departure
After breakfast drive to Arusha, where you will have lunch, after lunch, you proceed to Nairobi via Namanga border point.  You arrive in Nairobi this evening, and proceed to the airport for the return flight back home.
