Gorski Kotar Attractions
The region contains one of the oldest national parks in Europe and boasts peaks such as Risnjak (1,528m), Snjeznik (1,505m) and Guslica (1,490m). This elevation creates 14 different habitat types from grasslands to dense wooded forests which in turn are populated by animals like Lynx, soaring eagles and bear. The area also has some dramatic and unique geo-morphological structures such as The White and Samar Rocks and Cliffs and the The Green Whirlpool. Not as well known and therefore not as touristy as its famous coasts, this stunning region of Croatia is the perfect place to explore on a self catered holiday. With a host of activities from walking, cycling, horse riding, mountaineering, fishing for world record breaking trout (25kg), swimming, hiking up in the mountains, or skiing down them, to watching motor racing at the Automotodrom Grobnik or simply trying the local food.
One of the attractions of the Gorski Kotar region is that it is cooler in the summer and yet is only 20km drive from Crikvenica beach and it is a perfect winter holiday destination with skiing on Mt Platak only 20 minutes drive away plus the natural environment of the area lends itself to cycling and walking all year round.
The local town of Fuzine has great amenities including shops, a garage, local pubs and restaurants, tennis courts, horse riding facilities and beautiful walks around its large lake.
