On arrival at St Petersburg airport you will be met and transferred in a private car to your hotel for check in and overnight.
Day 2 – Hermitage Museum
After breakfast you will be collected from your hotel and taken to visit the Hermitage Museum which houses the largest collection of art in the world. The museum dates back to 1764 when Catherine the Great bought a large collection of Western European paintings and commissioned the Winter Palace to be built to house her purchases. The site now has over 3 million exhibits. Overnight St Petersburg
st-petersburg-night Day 3 – St Petersburg Tour
After breakfast at the hotel you will be collected and on a city tour of St Petersburg including a visit to the fortress of Peter and Paul. In 1703 Peter the Great re-claimed the lands along the Neva River and built a fort to protect the area from possible attack by the Swedish army and navy. It is built on a small island in the Neva delta on May 27, 1703 which became the birthday of the city of St Petersburg.In the middle of the fortress stands the impressive Peter and Paul Cathedral, the burial place of all the Russian Emperors and Empresses from Peter the Great to Alexander III. The Cathedral was the first church in the city to be built of stone (between 1712-33) and its design is curiously unusual for a Russian Orthodox Church and your guide will explain why. catherine-palace-st-petersburg Day 4 – Puskin Residence visit including Palace of Catherine II
After breakfast at the hotel you will be collected and taken to visit the Pushkin Residence. In 1997 the President of the Russian Federation declared the National Pushkin Museum was an exceptional object of the cultural heritage of Russia. The Museum’s broad collection has been built over several decades and now houses a unique collection of iconographical, memorial and historical materials featuring Pushkin’s epoch, as well as paintings, graphics, sculpture and pieces of art by the prominent artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It invites visitors to discover unique materials related to the life of Russia’s greatest poet. The residence is also known Tsarskoe Selo, the “Village of the Zar.” We will visit the rooms of the magnificent Palace of Catherine II, including the Amber Room. Peter Hof St Petersburg Day 5 – Visit to Petrodvoretz Residence
Breakfast at the Hotel and then we will visit the Peterhof’s Zar Residence (on the Baltic Sea) famous for its fantastic scenery and water games created by numerous fountains located in the natural environment that surrounds it. Sometimes called Russian Versailles the palace was the idea of Peter the Great to create a palace and park with a unique system of fountains, which are now famous all over the world. It has 173 fountains and 4 cascades, numerous sculptures and charming pavilions. Then you will be taken back to the hotel and overnight
Day 6 – Visit to Velikiy Novgorod (200km)
Early breakfast and then departure by coach to tour Velikiy Novgorod one of the most ancient cities in Russia. On arrival there will be lunch at a local restaurant and then we will visit the Kremlin Tower, St Sofia Cathedral and Yaroslav’s courtyard. A fascinating day before return and overnight at your hotel.
Day 7 – Departure
At an agreed time you will be collected and taken to the airport to catch your flight home.
